Every Cobra-Grille kit comes with glass reinforced plastic mounting blocks. They work great. They are strong, practical and exactly why they are standard. The CNC-machined aluminum blocks are the optional upgrade for the owner who looks at a perfectly good part and thinks, “Could that be machined from aluminum?” We understand those people. Very well.
No scare tactics. No pretending the included hardware is inadequate. The aluminum blocks exist for owners who want the durability, feel and satisfaction of machined-metal hardware behind the grille.
First, Something Important
The GRP Blocks Are Not the Cheap Version.
They are the standard version because they do the job well. Cobra-Grille kits include glass reinforced plastic mounting blocks, and there is no reason to upgrade simply because an upgrade exists.
The aluminum blocks are for a different kind of decision. They are for the owner who likes machined parts, wants the additional strength and longevity of aluminum, or simply gets satisfaction from knowing the hardware behind the grille is as thoughtfully made as the part everyone sees.
GRP is the standard and it works. Aluminum is the optional indulgence. Both exist because the grille needs a mounting system that fits the design, not because one exists to make the other look bad.

Where This Came From
The Grille Was the Idea. The Mounting System Was the Puzzle.
I did not come to this as somebody looking for another car accessory to sell. I came to it as a lifelong car enthusiast, tinkerer and hobbyist who happened to have spent years around serious precision manufacturing.
I worked in a large precision manufacturing plant producing components for torpedoes. I was a machinist, and later an owner in the business, before the company was acquired. That environment teaches you to look at parts differently. A component is not just a shape. You think about how it locates, how surfaces meet, how hardware loads the part, how consistently the same geometry can be reproduced and how all of those little decisions affect the final assembly.
Years later, when I bought my Cobra, the big open nose bothered the tinkerer in me. I knew a grille could protect what was behind it and look right doing it. Making a grille was only half the problem. The other half was figuring out how to hold it where it belonged without turning the mounting system into an ugly afterthought.
The Machinist’s Part of the Story

A mounting block may not look complicated, but its geometry determines how the grille is located and supported. The aluminum version starts with the same functional idea as the standard GRP mount, then takes it into a material and manufacturing process I have spent a large part of my life appreciating.

The important faces, holes and mounting relationships have to work together so the block supports the grille where the design intends, rather than asking the installer to compensate for sloppy geometry.

If you need or prefer to run a front license plate, the last thing you want is a clean Cobra grille followed by an improvised-looking plate mount. Our license plate mounting clips give you a purpose-made accessory for integrating the plate with the grille setup more cleanly.
They are not something every Cobra owner needs. That is exactly the point. If your car does not wear a front plate, ignore them and enjoy the view. If it does, this is the kind of small detail that keeps the front of the car looking intentional instead of patched together.
